The Most Interested Jobs by Indonesians
In the previous section, we discussed jobs with high demand. However, it is also interesting to see what the Indonesian labor force is actually looking for. Apparently, the attraction of working in state institutions or becoming a Civil Servant (PNS) is still strong in our society. This is proven by the millions of applicants who are willing to fight through a rigorous selection process.
The Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the State Personnel Agency (BKN) Muhammad Ridwan, as quoted by kompas.com, revealed that there were 4,436,694 applicants in 2018. This number increased from the number of Candidates for Civil Servants (CPNS) in 2017 which reached 2,433,656 people .
The popularity of civil servants among Indonesians is also evident in Google Trends, which displays topics that are relatively the most searched for on Google. PNS and CPNS respectively appear in the 7th and 11th most popular rankings in job search topics over the past 12 months.

The National Civil Service Candidates held simultaneously cover various jobs and work units. Based on data from the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan RB), five ministries named the agencies most in demand by CPNS applicants, namely:
1. Ministry of Law and Human Rights (487,071 applicants: 2000 formations)
2. Ministry of Religion with (265,264 applicants: 7,175 formations)
3. Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, (62,593 applicants: 9,692 formations).
4. Attorney General’s Office (50,823 applicants: 896 formations)
5. Ministry of Transportation (37,717 applicants:: 934 formations)
Why are CPNS so in demand?
There are several reasons that motivate people to apply to become civil servants, among others, this profession is considered “comfortable”. Have a large and fixed salary, plus, still get benefits every month when you retire. From the level of difficulty, the work of civil servants is considered easy and administrative in nature. Another factor that attracts some people to apply is a business trip or placement where you can travel around Indonesia. University of Indonesia psychologist Ivan Sujana revealed that encouragement from father or mother is also the reason why civil servant positions still attract young people.
